Individual Counselling

Individual counselling at the Growth Space is a process where clients work one-on-one with an experienced psychologist in a safe, caring and confidential environment, where ideas, feelings, and behaviours are explored to identify an issue and work towards a desired change.

People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, including to improve their ability to cope with major life challenges and transitions, navigate confronting feelings such as stress, depression and anxiety, work through past traumatic experiences, improve relationships with others, or simply for personal understanding and growth.

What to expect

Seeing a psychologist for the first time can be a daunting experience, and The Growth Space is committed to ensuring its clients are supported throughout the entire treatment process. Feel free to contact us prior to your initial appointment to speak about any queries that you may have.

The initial appointment will provide an opportunity to build rapport between you and your therapist. Your unique circumstances, reasons for seeking counselling and goals will be discussed, and the therapist will answer any queries regarding services, fees, confidentially and what to expect from counselling.

A collaborative approach is offered to decide together with your therapist what kind of treatment would be best for you and your unique circumstances. The Growth Space desires the best possible outcome for you.

Treatment Approach

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the most widely used evidence-based practice for improving mental health. Guided by empirical research, CBT focuses on the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems and changing unhelpful patterns in cognitions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes), behaviours, and emotional regulation.
